My very first mobile I ever owned was the Nokia 3310; to be honest I think all my friends and family had this phone. It was cutting edge, cheap and compacted – for those days anyway. I remember shortly after my friend go the Nokia 3410, this was incredible compared to my 3310, new screen, new features, and not forgetting – new games and yes of course Snake 2 carried on from the 3310! That game to this day goes down in history! Nokia back then were famous for having cutting edge technology including the ‘cool’ games, sleek designs etc. … But what happened after that?
“The Nokia 3410 was the replacement for the hugely popular Nokia 3210/3310/3330 series. Featuring an updated front panel design, the 3410 is the same size as the older Nokias, but lighter. The Nokia 3410 has all of the features that made the 3210/33xx so popular - downloadable ringtones, Xpress-on™ covers and great ease of use. The 3410 features Java games. The 3410's Java capability means that you can download games just as easily as downloading ringtones or graphics. WAP push allows you to subscribe to information services like news, sport and entertainment - you will then receive text messages which contain a link to a WAP page, so you can browse in more detail if you wish. The main defect of the 3410 is the joined-up keypad.” – “http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/nokia-3410.htm”
After that Nokia continued to produce phones after that, which I my eyes were great! They were small, compact, extremely durable and also very fashionable. But the one phone that stuck out the most was the Nokia 6700, it was released in mid 2009. It was small, large screen - in comparison to the size of the buttons – it had weight to it so felt more indestructible, the chrome made the handset very fashionable and exciting. It offered 5MP camera and 10.2mbps HSDPA connectivity.
So yeah after all these successes, Nokia was a very respected company giving out great handsets but after this phone was released things went down hill. The iPhone 2g was launched before this and that caused uproar with all this smartphone technology. Nokia seemed to be a couple years behind every other mobile company by not trying to release a smartphone type. Eventually when they did, there result was terrible. The Nokia Xpress phone was slow, ugly, not durable, they had a lot of complaints due to the phone braking, just an over all disappointment. They had a good concept but the out come just wasn’t good enough to compared to everything else out on the market in my opinion.
I was watching BBC news today where they were talking about how Nokia went from being one of the most desired mobile companies to then become nothing. I heard that Nokia aren’t actually making any profit anymore with there products that they have had to come up with a new smartphone idea that Nokia hopes will bring back the name.
The Nokia Lumia 800 is there new creation. They have looked at all the currant smartphones on the market and designed a new modern product that is different compared to currant phones. This phone is the first mobile that is running the new Microsoft Windows Phone operating system, Nokia aim to use this OS on all there future high end phones. One of the main differences between this and all the other main smartphones on that market is the aesthetics of the phone, it has a sleek, simple, rounded shape and also comes in various bright colours including, green, pick and blue. I think personally this is a great idea with the aesthetics, it looks modern and I love the colour idea. All the phones on the market are all either black, white or silver and I think it’s boring! I have the iPhone 4 and I love the phone - don’t get me wrong - but It would be really cool if u could get it in different colours. I know you could put covers on the iPhone but its not the same to be honest, would rather have the actual phone be coloured.
I have always had a soft spot for Nokia and I think I always will, I admit that the company products went down hill for a few years but I do believe that this Nokia Lumia is the future of bringing back Nokia to again the most desirable mobile company not making them ‘One Trick Pony’s.’
